What is Open Research and why is it important?

Open reseearch is the idea that data should be made available as soon as possible, and that others may utilize your data for their own projects and research. Barrier free communication of discovery and advancement will only enhance our ability to progress. The pre-digital archaic system has its purpose (that of protecting IP, protecting careers, and encouraging highly focused and selective research) but it does not cope well with the way in which our knowledge of the world is rapidly increasing.
